Voice Therapy for Adults
Personalized support for a voice that feels comfortable, confident, and true to you.
Your voice plays an important role in how you connect with others, express yourself, and participate in daily life. If speaking feels effortful, your voice tires easily. If your voice does not reflect how you want to present yourself, our speech-language pathologists (SLP) can help. At Mercury Speech & Language, voice therapy focuses on helping you speak with greater ease and use your voice in ways that feel right for you.
We support adults experiencing many different types of vocal issues such as vocal strain, hoarseness, muscle tension dysphonia (MTD), age-related voice changes (presbyphonia), and occupational voice care for teachers, coaches, healthcare professionals. We also provide gender-affirming voice care for individuals exploring a more feminine, masculine, androgynous, or flexible voice, with goals guided by each person’s preferences and identity.
Therapy begins with understanding your voice, health history, daily routines, and priorities. Your individualized plan may include coordinating breathing and voicing, reducing unnecessary tension, exploring pitch and resonance, building vocal stamina, and developing practical voice-care habits. When a voice disorder is suspected, an examination of your vocal folds by an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist helps identify the cause and guide appropriate treatment.
Our approach connects therapy to the situations that matter to you, such as leading a meeting, teaching a class, introducing yourself, or enjoying conversations with family and friends. You may want to focus on one specific skill in a specific speaking environment or work toward broader changes over time. We tailor practice to your goals and provide strategies you can use beyond the therapy session, helping you build a more comfortable and sustainable way of using your voice.
