Stuttering Support for Children
Stuttering is a communication difference that can sound like repetitions of sounds or words, stretching out sounds, or moments when a child’s voice feels “stuck.” For some children, it may come and go, while for others it can feel more persistent. Just as important as the speech itself are the thoughts and feelings that may accompany it, frustration, worry, or self-consciousness.
At Mercury Speech & Language, we take a compassionate, holistic, and research-driven approach to supporting children who stutter. Our work begins with a thorough, family-centered assessment to understand not only what stuttering sounds like, but also how it feels for your child and how it impacts daily life. From there, we develop an individualized and functional plan that blends practical tools with meaningful physical, emotional and cognitive support.
In therapy, we help children learn to communicate with more confidence and spontaneity, while also fostering self-knowledge, self-awareness, and self-advocacy skills. We partner closely with families, providing coaching and strategies to create supportive communication environments at home and in the community. Above all, we strive to help every child who stutters feel heard, valued, and empowered to express themselves authentically.
